Big Bay man arraigned in fatal Marquette County hit-and-run

POWELL TOWNSHIP (AP) – A 46-year-old man has been charged in the hit-and-run death of a 54-year-old pedestrian in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The state police post in Negaunee says Michael Nelson of Big Bay was arraigned Tuesday in 96th District Court with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death.

Defense lawyer Timothy Quinnell told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he couldn’t comment on the case.

Robin Rahoi of Big Bay was struck Dec. 17 in Marquette County’s Powell Township, about 25 miles northwest of Marquette. Her body was found by a passing motorist.

Nelson was being held on a $150,000 bond in the Marquette County Jail. A preliminary examination is scheduled for April 7.
