Evans resigns from city council

ESCANABA – The Escanaba City Council will soon be looking for a new member following the resignation of Mayor Pro-Tem Leo Evans.

In an email addressed to Mayor Marc Tall and dated March 23, Evans wrote, “It is with deep regret that I resign my position on the city council. Due to an upcoming issue I will not be able to serve on city council. I’m sorry for this whole situation and wish you luck with the power plant. It’s been a pleasure working with the whole city council and serving the public these 18 years.”

Evans could not be reached for comment.

The remaining council members will vote whether to accept the resignation and discuss how to proceed in filling the open seat during the regular city council meeting Thursday at city hall at 7 p.m.

“How its been done in the past is people who are interested may apply and we will have a meeting to discuss those applications and any questions we may have for those applicants,” said Tall.

The council will also discuss how to fill the position of mayor pro-tem.

“How precisely we will proceed will be discussed Thursday,” said Tall.
