Woman killed in home explosion on island
DRUMMOND ISLAND – Michigan State Police troopers are still investigating a home explosion that left one woman dead on Drummond Island in Chippewa County Monday.
At approximately 8:55 a.m. reports were received of a loud explosion that was felt in areas of the island. Smoke was also observed in the Sturgeon Bay Road area.
The Drummond Island Fire Department and State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to the call and discovered a residence at 34122 S. Sturgeon Bay Road had been destroyed in the explosion and was on fire.
The fire was extinguished and upon searching the home the body of a woman was found in the debris. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division is further investigating the cause of the explosion.
