Betty J. Gumbert

BARK RIVER – Betty J. Gumbert, 82, of Bark River, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014, at her home.

She was born in Vandercook Lake, Mich., on July 10, 1931, the daughter of Perry and Marion (Gillespie) McGuire.

Betty married Howard H. Gumbert Sr. on Dec. 16, 1949, in Vandercook Lake, Mich. They moved to Air Force bases around the United States, Turkey, and England for 20 years before settling in Bark River in 1969.

She belonged to Bark River United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, and read. Betty enjoyed watching the wildlife that lived in her backyard and spending time in her garden.

Betty is survived by her sons, Howard H. Gumbert Jr. of Bark River and Bruce C. (Haruyo) Gumbert of Ohio; daughters, Deborah Gumbert of Orange Park, Fla., and Karen Marie (Terry) Mokszycke of Bark River; grandchildren, Jacob Rogers, Christina (Lee) Rosenberg, Kenta Gumbert, and James, Joseph, and Heather Mokszycke; great grandchildren, Casey and Jordan Rosenberg; brothers, Kenneth (Dianne) McGuire, Frank (Elaine) McGuire, and Gary McGuire; sister, Madeline Kasarjan; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and grandchild, Jennifer Duch.

Services will be held later this spring.
