Songs of spring

ESCANABA – The Bay de Noc Choral Society will present their Spring Concert on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. This year’s concert will be a reflection on the events of Holy Week beginning with Christ’s procession to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and ending with His resurrection Easter morning. The major work for the concert will be Faure’s “Requiem.”

Many guest performers and soloists will join the Choral Society for this concert including First Bells and Bay Brass. The St. Anne’s Youth Group, directed by Katie Gravelle, will join the Choral Society on “The Hour Is Come!” and they will also sing a selection of their own. Soloists for the concert include Dan Ammel, Cathy Gilbert, Katie Gravelle, Cathy Jensen, Patty Kobasic, Kellie Linderoth, Mike Olson, Bill Rinne & Kathy Young. John Ignatowski will accompany the group on the piano and organ. Ann Wood is the director.

The Choral Society is a four-part singing group that is open to any adult who likes to sing. There are no auditions. They present two concerts a year, one at Christmas and one in the Spring. The Choral Society also participates in the community Festival of Choirs concert held in December. Weekly rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba.
