Robert ‘Bob’ Haslow

ESCANABA – Robert “Bob” Haslow, 73, of Escanaba, passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2014, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1940, in Spring Green, Wis., son of Harold and Erma (Kidd) Haslow. Bob was raised in Spring Green and graduated from Spring Green High School in 1958 and then attended radio school in Minneapolis.

Bob served in the 82nd Army Airborne until his honorable discharge in 1965.

Bob married Judy I. Hudnutt on June 25, 1967, in Galina, Ill.

They moved to Escanaba in 1971 and Bob was employed with WDBC/WYKX as a broadcast engineer until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2005. He also taught electronics at Bay de Noc College.

Bob was an avid reader and would take advantage of any opportunity to read, even in between innings of his grand son’s baseball games. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and in his earlier years he loved to sail and was involved with numerous races. His most important activity was supporting his two grandsons in their sports and watching them compete and also enjoying his youngest grandson’s sense of humor.

Bob was a life member of the Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 and was a member of the Escanaba Country Club.

Among survivors include his wife, Judy of Escanaba; children, Jeff of Washington D.C., Greg (Margie) and DeAnne Haslow, both of Escanaba; grandchildren, Hayden, Vinny and Owen; brother, Cyril (Karen) Haslow of Middleton, Wis.; sister, Lucille of Florida; and nieces, Kristin and Katrina.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 15, from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Elks Lodge 354 memorial service will be held at 5:45 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Lewis Hague officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marquette General Hospice or to the family and a memorial will be made in Bob’s name at a later date. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
