Woman gets jail term for embezzlement

ESCANABA – An Escanaba woman was ordered to spend time in jail and pay nearly $16,000 in restitution Tuesday during her sentencing for embezzling from a vulnerable adult, according to Delta County District Court records.

Crystal Dee Harris, 47, of 3820 18th Road, Escanaba, pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of embezzling $200 or more from a vulnerable adult. She was sentenced to four months in the county jail; three months were suspended resulting in a 30-day jail term.

Harris was ordered to pay $$6,803.54 restitution to the victim and $9136.84 to the Social Security Administration. She was also ordered to pay $125 in fines and costs. She was placed on probation for two years.

Harris was originally arrested on one count of embezzlement $1,000-$20,000, a five-year felony. The case relates to incidents from March 2011 to May 2013 in Escanaba.
