SAULT STE. MARIE – Sharon Duquette, long time resident of Sault Ste. Marie, walked on to eternal life on April 17, 2014. She was born March 27, 1940, to Robert and Geraldine Sleeper in Imlay City, Mich. On Nov. 29, 1958, she was united in marriage to James Duquette at the First Baptist Church in Manistique. They had 55 years together and raised two children. William (Julie) and Diane Duquette-Horn.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicole and Brent; one sister, Patricia Hewitt of Gladstone; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and prayed for.
She was predeceased by her parents and an infant sister, Lisa.
Sharon was retired from LSSU where she had earned a bachelor’s degree. During her years of service she was her union’s political action representative, and served on the cultural affairs committee. She also served on the advisory board at Anchor House, First Baptist Church representative to Church Women United and was very active in many areas of her church. She was a life member of Eastern Star and the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed candy making, baking pies (her specialty), sewing, teaching an adult Bible study group (which was her joy), cleaning and decorating her church and working with Lullaby Loft. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends.
Visitation was Monday, April 21, beginning at 11 a.m. with service following at noon. All services were held at First Baptist Church, 1901 John Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Friends may begin to say their goodbyes prior to the service and were welcomed to continue sharing stories at a luncheon served at the American Legion. There will be a graveside committal service at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique in the spring.
