Area resident rescued after fall through ice
GLADSTONE – A Gladstone area male was rescued Monday after his four-wheeler broke through the ice on Little Bay de Noc off the Gladstone shoreline.
The person was riding his recreation vehicle on the ice northeast of Butler’s Island, near Kipling, when he fell through the ice, according to Gladstone Public Safety which was dispatched to deploy its hovercraft to rescue the individual.
The subject had notified 9-1-1 for assistance at 5:20 p.m.
Gladstone officers and other area law enforcement and rescue personnel successfully rescued the male. TKL Repair of Rapid River pulled the four-wheeler from the bay.
Delta County Sheriff Department had jurisdiction of the incident in the bay. In addition to Gladstone police, other agencies assisting at the scene included Delta County Search and Rescue and Rampart Emergency Medical Service.
Law enforcement are warning people to stay off the ice on Little Bay de Noc and other area waters because conditions are rapidly deteriorating.
