Wendell L. Swanson
MANISTIQUE – Wendell L. Swanson, 79, of Riverview Drive, Manistique, passed away April 29, 2014, at his home in Hiawatha Township.
He was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Manistique, the son of Ruben and Ellen (Minor) Swanson, and attended Manistique area schools.
In 1956 he married the former Jeanine Weigandt of Cooks and they made their home and raised their family in Manistique.
In his earlier years, Wendell was employed as a construction worker and also as a Great Lakes sailor. He later worked as a machine tender on the paper machine at Manistique Papers until his retirement in 1993 after 35 years of service.
Wendell enjoyed being with his family, especially the grandchildren, and going for rides around the area. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed keeping up on politics. He had a quick sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke and a tease.
He is survived by his children, Wendy (Mike) Beckman of Manistique, Patti White of Manistique, Paul Swanson of LaMesa, Calif.; son-in-law, Steve White of Manistique; grandchildren, Jason (Amy) White of Manistique, Jenea White of Manistique, Micah (Mike) Beckman of Cadillac, Laura (Jason) Jackson of Manistique, Douglas (Laura) Swanson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Virginia Swanson of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Savannah, Jayda, Avery, McKabe, Kavin, Kaiver, Marryn, Cashton, Kruz and Bryce; brothers, Kenneth (Helmi) Swanson, Raymond (Deanna) Swanson and Richard (Maria) Swanson; and his sister, Carol Walton.
Private family services were held at the Hiawatha Township Cemetery in Manistique.
The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.
