James Lee Pendergraft

ESCANABA – James Lee Pendergraft, 68, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital.

Jim was born in Escanaba on Nov. 4, 1945, the son of Ivan “John” and Mae Rose (Flynn) Pendergraft.

He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1965.

On Aug. 20, 1966, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Susanna Pilon, at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba.

Jim was employed by Harnischfeger Corporation, was a member of the Carpenter’s Local 1510, worked as a truck driver on the pipeline, and was the owner of Breezy Point Bar with his wife Sue for 16 years.

He was a member of the Ford River Lions Club and Escanaba Eagles 1088.

Jim loved spending time at his camp so much that when he retired it became his home. He enjoyed his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He was an avid Detroit Lion, Detroit Redwing, and NASCAR fan. He spent many enjoyable Sundays watching the games and races at the “Shack” with his friends. Jim always had a story to tell and it usually left you with a smile. His sense of humor will be missed.

Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sue; two children, Tammy Pendergraft of Escanaba and Scott (Tricia) Pendergraft of Ford River; four grandchildren, Abigail Pendergraft of East Lansing, Mich., and Scott Jr., Brooklyn, and Noah Pendergraft of Ford River; father, Ivan “John” Pendergraft of Ford River; two sisters, Judith (Dale) Deloria of Wells and Jayne (Bill) Church of Ford River; mother-in-law, Mary Pilon; two sisters-in-law, Debbie (Neal) Martinson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jill (Todd) Calouette of Gladstone; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Rose Pendergraft of Escanaba; brother, Dennis Michael Pendergraft; nephew, John Limberger; and father-in-law, William Pilon.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Olson officiating.

Burial will take place in Ford River Cemetery.
