Gary Alan Harnish

ESCANABA – Gary Alan Harnish, 72, of 1401 N. 23rd St., Escanaba, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Hazel Park, Mich., and was the son of Alfred and Frances (Oldenburg) Harnish. Gary graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1960. He married the former Gloria Bailey on Dec. 22, 1961, in Royal Oak; Mich.

Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until he was honorably discharged in 1968. He was employed Michigan Bell Telephone Company and worked on installing the new telephone system in Delta County. He retired from Michigan Bell on Dec. 4, 1994. Gary was a member of the Communication Workers of America, was a Boy Scout leader, and enjoyed helping others. Gary loved to draw and do calligraphy and enjoyed cooking and camping with family and friends. He belonged to a camping club. Gary was a member of the Troy Baptist Church in Troy, the Faith Baptist church in Royal Oak and the Free Methodist Church in Ferndale, Mich.

Gary Alan Harnish is survived by: wife, Gloria Harnish; son, Scott Alan (Jennifer) Harnish of Shelby Township, Mich.; grandson, Keate Alan Harnish; sister, Nancy (Jim) Pate of Barkley, Mich.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Harnish, and niece, Paula Pate.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veterans Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Gary Alan Harnish will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Art Radlicki from the Silver Winds Church officiating.
