Viki Lynn Kathryn (Hayes) Branstrom

PERKINS – Viki Lynn Kathryn (Hayes) Branstrom, 55, of Perkins, died unexpectedly at home of an apparent heart attack on Monday, June 2, 2014.

Viki was born on Nov. 8, 1958 in Marquette, the daughter of Richard and Audrey (Kukkola) Hayes. She spent her early childhood years in Detroit and then later moved to Rock where she graduated high school in 1976. She spent her high school years as a cheerleader, basketball player, and could play a mean tune on the clarinet.

And parties. She and her sister went to lots and lots of parties.

Viki was united in marriage to Charles Branstrom on March 27, 1993.

After raising her children in Perkins, she worked in maintenance at the YMCA where she has been for several years. In her early 50s, Viki made the decision to go to college where she took on the Computer Aid Program at Bay. She went from asking “How do you turn on this computer?” to “Hey! I’m working on the world’s largest yo-yo!” That yo-yo is now in the Guinness Book of World Records. In May 2012, she received her C.A.D. certificate from Bay College. She was a part of the Strong Kids program at the YMCA and her hobbies included lots of kayaking and river trips, camping, motorcycles, going to the casino, and hanging out with all her friends and family.

Along with her husband Charles Branstrom; survivors include, mother, Audrey Hayes of Ontonagon; daughters, Jamie (Daymen) Lippens of Gladstone, Jessica Branstrom of Perkins; sons, Travis (Sarah) Maki of Escanaba, Chucky (Mariah Bullard) Branstrom of Escanaba; sister, Ginny (Joe) Rimolde of Duluth, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Jada, Jacinda, and Josslyn Lippens, Jim Greenlund, Raeanna, and Jacob Maki, Sky Branstrom, and Brody and Logan Bullard; mother-in-law, Agatha Branstrom of Perkins; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her father; her daughter, Erin Maki in 1993; and a sister, Wendi Hayes in 2011, preceded Viki in death.

Viki’s family will welcome friends on Saturday, June 7, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services celebrating the life of Viki Branstrom will follow with Rev. A favorite verse of Viki’s that she found while vacationing in Alaska: “Life’s Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.. “Holy Hallelujah! What a ride!”
