Days River Lions to host fish fry

GLADSTONE – The Days River Area Lions Club will conduct a fish fry on the third Friday of each month beginning June 20. The fish fry will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Lions Clubhouse in Brampton.

The menu will consist of perch, French fries, baked beans, coleslaw and homemade bread. The cost is $12. A child’s meal of chicken nuggets or fish sticks with all the fixings is available for children 5 and under for $5.

Marquette youth perform original play

MARQUETTE – As many as 100 Marquette area youth will participate in “Becky Saves the Bees,” an original children’s play by E.A.R.T.H. Angels. This free performance will be located in the band shell at Presque Isle in Marquette on Friday.

E.A.R.T.H. Angels is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization using aerial performance art to raise awareness of environmental issue. “Becky Saves the Bees” will teach participants and audiences the global importance of pollinators and the epidemic Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD. The production will include singing, dancing, EcoSuperheros, aerial bees and butterflies.

Audience participation is encouraged. Children dressed as pollinators will be invited on stage to be a part of the performance.

Fire Dept. & Aux. to conduct rummage sale

BRAMPTON – The Brampton Volunteer Fire Dept and Auxiliary are looking for donations for their annual community rummage sale that will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, at the Brampton Fire hall. Donation must be in working order.

‘Run for the Cross’ run/walk June 28

GLADSTONE – New Horizons Ministry in Gladstone will host its first “Run for the Cross” Run-Walk on Saturday, June 28. Check-in time is 8 a.m., followed by the 5KL run/walk at 9. A Kids Dash with awards will follow at 9:45. A one-mile alternate will be provided.

Joining for the race will be former pro ball player, Jason Mitchell of the Chicago Knights. A complementary brunch and raffle will follow.

Pre-registration is $25 until Friday. Registration for the Kids Dash is $10. Guaranteed t-shirts will be available to all who pre-register. Late entry is $35.

Race day bags can be picked up at New Horizons on Friday, June 27, from 5-7 p.m. Late entry t-shirts can be picked up on Wednesday, July 9, from 5:30-8 p.m. Activities for children will be available at New Horizons during the run.

VFW Post open to veterans and families

ESCANABA – VFW Post 2998 Hall is open to area residents for various activities from Tuesday through Saturday at 6 p.m. The organization offers free billiards, as well as cribbage (partners) each Thursday at 7 p.m.

The VFW Hall is available to the public, not only for monthly meetings and activities, but also as a rental for weddings, bridal or baby showers.

VFW is a non-profit organization that helps local veterans and their families. The hall is located at 904 Sheridan Road in Escanaba. For more information, contact Joe at (906) 233-7173.

Pain management workshop planned

ESCANABA – A free Pain Management Workshop will be offered each Thursday through June 26 at the Escanaba Senior Center.

Anyone living with arthritis, back pain, Fibromyalgia, or a different form of pain is welcome to attend. The Pain Management Program helps people living with chronic pain to learn the skills they need to manager their symptoms.
