Robert D. Lewis

MEQUON, Wis. – Robert D. Lewis, of Mequon, Wis., passed away on June 13, 2014.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1928, to Virginia and Mathew Lewis of Escanaba.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tessie St. Cyr Lewis; his parents; and brothers, Matthew, Kenneth, Glenn, and Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy); his five children, Robert Jr. (Cheryl), Jane (Terry Rice), Sue (Brett Lein), David (Maureen), and Glenn (Liza); and his beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Wyatt, Kevin (Jill), Michael (Katie), Robert, Carly, Bryce, Jake, Timothy, James, Carolyn, Chandler, McKenna, Hunter, Colin; and great-grandchildren, Harlie and Henry; step-children, Beth (Erich Wronski) and Lee Hall (Carol Marra).

He is also survived by his brothers, Francis and William of Escanaba; and his sister, Eileen, of Daggett; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Escanaba, and served in the Pacific as a surveyor before attending Marquette University. He was in sales with Commerce Clearing House. Bob’s passions included skiing, remodeling and construction, which included building a new house on Little Cedar Lake, where he, Peg and the family watched many a sunset. His passion and creativity also included extensively remodeling a miner’s home in the Upper Michigan ski country. The ‘Ludwig Haus’ has been enjoyed for years by the family and friends.

His family and friends will dearly miss his funny quips and delightful sense of humor. In the last few years he had great fun using his creativity making lamps and artist pieces from the many shells he collected in Florida. He loved life and lived it well.

The family wishes to thank Horizon Home Care and the Lawlis Family Hospice for their dedicated staff and caregivers who have been such a help with his care.

A memorial service was held at St. Eugene’s Church, in Fox Point, Wis., on Tuesday, June 17.
