Wallace ‘Wally’ Johnson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Wallace “Wally” Johnson, 89, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away on March 30, 2014, at Casa De La Luz.

He was born in Escanaba on June 16, 1924, to Alex and Hilda (Carlson) Johnson and was raised in Escanaba. On June 30, 1975, Wallace married Elaine Sarasin in Escanaba and they made their home in the area until he retired and they moved out to Tucson, Ariz.

He worked at Harnischfeger as a truck driver until he retired in 1980.

His family remembers his enjoyment of camping, traveling, and his favorite place to eat, In and Out Burgers. He was a member of the St. Odilia Catholic Church.

Wallace “Wally” Johnson’s survivors include: a son, Dan Johnson of Escanaba; two daughters, Vicki Johnson of Escanaba, and Donna (Jim) Bougie of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Amanda Sanders of Goose Creek, S.C., and Joe (Nicole) Bougie of Oakdale, Minn.; and five great-grandchildren, David, Kaelyn, Anthony, Kaitlyn, and Makayla; also numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Wallace was preceeded in death by four brothers, Verner, Walford, Walter, Willard “Jiggs”; three sisters, Engla Scheuren, Rose Picard, and Mildred DuFour; and grandson, Doug Bougie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
