Serious injuries in pickup accident

ROCK – Two people were seriously injured when the vehicle they were in went off the road and into the woods west of Rock Saturday night, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police Post in Gladstone.

Allan Borchert, 41, of Rock, was driving a 1994 GMC pickup truck west on West Maple Ridge Road when he crossed the centerline and went off the road at the intersection at Evergreen Road. The vehicle traveled west into the woods and struck several trees before coming to a rest, said troopers who were dispatched to the accident at 9:39 p.m.

Borchert and a passenger in the pickup, Kari Borchert, 36, of Negaunee, were extricated from the pickup using the Jaws of Life. Both suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Marquette General Hospital, said troopers.

Kari Borchert was listed in fair condition this morning at Marquette General. Allan Borchert was treated and later released from the hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, according to state police who continue to investigate the accident.

Assisting at the scene were Rampart Emergency Medical Services, Forsyth Township Ambulance, Rock Rescue Emergency Medical Services, Tri-Township Volunteer Fire Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Department, and Gene’s Towing.
