Gladstone’s Shea, Anderson place second at Pine Grove

IRON MOUNTAIN – Iron Mountain’s Becky Cecconi and Ishpeming’s Karen Plaiser prevailed by one stroke Tuesday in the Pine Grove Dual women’s golf tournament.

Cecconi-Plaiser, who won together for the second time, carded a three-over 75 Tuesday in the scramble round and finished with a 146. Runners-up Lori Shea of Gladstone and Polly Anderson of Green Bay, down by eight shots, nearly caught the leaders for a sixth Pine Grove Dual title.

Shea-Anderson opened with a 79 in the best ball portion Monday but rallied with a 68 Tuesday. They notched five birdies in the round but slipped to a bogey on the par-5 15th hole.

Following Cecconi-Plaiser, 146, and Shea-Anderson, 147, were Nancy Osier of Wakefield and Cathy Shamion of Ontonagon at 150 (76-74). Osier-Shamion trailed Cecconi-Plaiser by five shots after the first round. Pam Frankini-JoAnn Poncino (83-74) and Lisa Dionne-Kathy Gagnon (81-76) shared fourth place at 157.
