Catherine L. Foster

ESCANABA – Catherine L. Foster, 90, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba with family by her side.

Catherine was born May 7, 1924, in Nahma, the daughter of John and Pearl (Hall) Green. She was united in marriage to John (Jack) Foster on Sept. 20, 1947. Catherine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba. She sang in the church choir for many years and played in the church dart ball league. Together Catherine and Jack built their business Foster Electronics Inc. where she kept track of the bookkeeping until retiring. She was a member of the Delta County Historical Society and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. One of the highlights of her year was often celebrating the 4th of July with lots of family gathering at her house. She loved having company and always baked and cooked for them.

Catherine is survived by three daughters, Kristin (David) Hires of Texas, Ellen (Gary) Rizner of Holland, Mich., and Ann (Roger) Tembreull of Gladstone; six grandchildren, Erik (Brooke) Carlson of Lansing, Mich., Megan Hensley of Hendersonville, N.C., Caitlin (Jeff) White of Houston, Texas, Ben Rizner of Holland, Mich., and Claire and Lydia Tembreull of Gladstone; three great-grandchildren, Drake Hensley, Colin White and Andrew Carlson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, William; her parents; three brothers, Howard, Wallace and Leslie; and three sisters, Eleanor Foss, Marion Scheffler and Geneveive Lundberg.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Christine Bergquist officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Catherine will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba. Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Escanaba.
