Joyce Ann LaCosse

MARQUETTE – Joyce Ann LaCosse, 75, of Marquette and formerly of Escanaba, entered eternal life on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital in the loving care of her family.

Joyce was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Escanaba to Vearn and Marie (Beaudry) Cass, and was raised in Escanaba. She was married in 1958 to Archie Urban Bazinet and they had a son, Archie Vearn, in 1961. Her husband, Archie, unexpectedly passed in 1962. Joyce later found companionship with Melvin LaCosse Sr., and they were married in 1964. They moved to Ralph, Mich., where they raised two children before making their final move to Trenary where they resided for over 25 years. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed crocheting and made numerous items that people all over Alger, Delta, and Marquette counties have in their homes. She was a wonderful cook and baker; her recipes were homemade and she had her own unique style in the kitchen that couldn’t be matched. She was active in the various activities during her time at Snowberry Heights, as well as being a floor representative for the council and council president. She was extremely selfless, and did everything she could to make others lives easier, loved her family, and did anything she could for them. They enjoyed the simple things and lived a simple life, but she touched many people and will surely be missed

She is survived by her children, Archie (Michelle) Bazinet of Trenary, Ann (Rob) Halvorsen of Ironwood, and Melvin LaCosse Jr. of Trenary; six granddaughters, Diane, Jennifer, Brooke, Erin, Haley, Angela; one great-grandson, Trent; and two great-granddaughters, Madelynn and Nevaeh; two brothers, Ron and Dave Cass; and a sister, Sandi Baird; a very special friend and caregiver, Jan Black of Negaunee; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Bazinet and husband of 45 years, Melvin LaCosse Sr.; two brothers, Vearn Jr. and Wayne Cass.

The family would like to thank the staff of Snowberry Heights, Norlite Nursing Center, and Marquette General Hospital, including Dr. LaCrosse, for the wonderful care Joyce received over the past several years.

Visitation for Joyce will be held at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Thursday, July 3, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. Rev. Theodore Jolls will officiate. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area located at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at
