ESCANABA – Carol Kutches, 71, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., following a lengthy illness.
Carol was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Escanaba, the daughter of Alex and Hilma (Buckland) Derouin. She was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Kutches on Dec. 21, 1957. Carol worked as a valued clerk at Viau’s Market in Northtown for many years. Carol enjoyed her flower gardening and playing cards and dice with her many loyal friends. She was a wonderful cook, preparing loving meals, especially her baked beans and “Auntie’s” famous chicken. Many summer evenings were spent on Carol’s front porch and swing as the gathering place for all. Carol had an unconditional love for her family, enjoying time spent with them, especially their weekly Monday night get-togethers for coffee.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Debbie Kutches of Escanaba; two brothers, John “Buzzy” (Carol) Derouin of Escanaba and Dale “Punchy (Merri) Derouin of Bark River; her sister, Barb Richer of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Maryann Derouin of Escanaba, Sandy Derouin of Bark River, Sue Derouin of Bark River and numerous nieces and nephews, especially her niece Carrie and her children, Drake Draze, Madison Draze and Grant Gholston
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Dick Roger, Kenny and Gary, two sisters, Dorothy Skradski and Lois Dupey, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Derouin.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will follow at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road in Escanaba. Carol will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
