Rock the Dock set for Saturday

ESCANABA – Family and friends are invited to attend Escanaba’s second “Rock the Dock” event at the municipal dock this Saturday when a variety of fun-filled activities are scheduled for all ages.

Two bands will be featured including the band “Verretta” set to perform from 1 to 4 p.m. “The Cadillacs” will play from 5 to 10 p.m. Those attending are reminded to bring their chairs to sit back and enjoy the music.

From 3 to 6 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety will have a fire safety smokehouse available for children to learn what to do in the event of a fire in a building.

Other children’s activities scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. include a bounce house, face painting, and balloon twisting. The Bonifas Art Center will offer additional children’s activities at the municipal dock from 3-6 p.m.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) will be offering demonstrations of emergency communication.

At 4 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety will conduct a K-9 police dog demonstration.

The Great Lakes Timber Show will be featured at the municipal dock at 4:30 and 6 p.m. with log rolling and saw demonstrations taking place.

A variety of food and drink will be on sale at the municipal dock during the day’s festivities.

In the event of inclement weather, “Rock the Dock” activities will be moved to the inside of the new barn at the U.P. State Fairgrounds on North Lincoln Road.

Escanaba hosted its first “Rock the Dock” event on June 7.

The event is also scheduled for Aug. 2 when a water ski show will be performed offshore of the municipal dock.

In addition to children’s activities, there will be a dunk tank at next month’s event. The band “Jellyhead” will perform. A Venetian Night will take place with boats being decorated for an evening parade alongside the municipal dock.

Escanaba’s municipal dock is located in Ludington Park at the east end of Ludington Street.

The Bay Area Art Festival also takes place in the park on Aug. 2.
