‘Corners in Bloom’

contest in July

ESCANABA – The Delta County Master Gardeners Association is sponsoring the 2nd annual “Corners in Bloom.” This contest is a program to encourage Escanaba neighbors in the beautification of their city.

The residents of each participating block will choose a corner at an intersection in their neighborhood and beautify it by creating a small manageable and highly visible street corner garden.

Judging of all gardens will take place at noon on Tuesday, July 15, and will be based on beauty, design, creativity and originality. Awards and recognition will be given for the top three corner gardens.

Entry forms (with instructions) are available at the DDA office or by emailing deltacountymga@gmail.com. The deadline for submitting is July 10.

Parkinson Group

meets Tuesday in Esky

ESCANABA – The Escanaba Parkinson Group will meet Tuesday at 3 p.m. at M-TEC Center on North 30th Street in Escanaba. The guest speaker will be a representative from Hospice.

meet Wednesday

RAPID RIVER – The Rapid River Readers will meet Wednesday, July 9. Their book selection is “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion. The group meets at 10 a.m. at Jack’s.

Farmers Market

coming to Brampton

BRAMPTON – The Days River Lion’s Club will host a new farmers market beginning Tuesday, July 8, at the Brampton/Days River Lion’s Club just off M-35 in Brampton (watch for signs). The market will include fresh fruits and vegetables, farm-fresh eggs, back goods, fresh-baked artisan breads, Days River Lion’s fresh pasties, and much more.

Markets will be held weekly each Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. Craft and flea-market vendors are welcome. For more information or if interested in being a vendor, contact Kathy at 356-6203.

Volunteers needed

to remove flags

HERMANSVILLE – Volunteer workers are needed to take down 94 American Flags at the Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville on Thursday, July 10. The work bee starts at 5 p.m. Call James Wash, commander, at 438-2234.

Bike Ride/Poker Run

July 19 in Powers

POWERS – TJ’s Sports Bar located in Powers will be hosting a Bike Ride/Poker Run scheduled for Saturday, July 19, starting at noon (CST). Tony Green, owner, will be doing several smaller fundraisers between now and then, with all proceeds being donated to the UP Honor Flight for veterans.

Currently, mostly monetary donations are being sought to be added to the fund-raising efforts. The next honor flight is scheduled for Sept. 4. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. No donation will be too big or too small.

Breakfast & craft show

July 13 in Rapid River

RAPID RIVER – Vendors and crafters are welcome to take part in the Second Sunday Breakfast Show on July 13 at American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon.

The breakfast menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, hashbrowns, sausage and ham. Cost is $7.
