Frederick ‘Fred’ J. Arts

WELLS – Frederick “Fred” J. Arts, 84, passed away Friday evening, July 18, 2014, at this home. He was born on July 14, 1930, in Racine, Wis., son of Fred and Leona (Le Duc) Arts.

He made his home in Wells and worked at Harnischfeger Corp. from 1949 until the plant closed down in 1986. He was one of the last to go, giving them 36 years of service. Member of the U.A.W., his hobbies were hunting and fishing and doing yardwork.

In Sept. 16, 1950, he married the former Shirley Poquette at St. Anthony’s Church in Wells. They were married 63 years.

Shirley survives him along with their four children, Fred and Ron of Escanaba, Robert (Wendy) Appleton and Robin Patton of Sussex, Wis.; one brother, Dan (Marlis) Arts of Escanaba; two sisters, Nancy Maier and Charlene Tenhagen of Burlington, Wis.; seven grandchildren, William Arts of Appleton, Cory Arts of St. John’s, Mich., Stephane Arts of Escanaba, Christopher Glovacki of Appleton, Nicole Glovacki of Sussex, Wis., Austin Arts and Autum Cross of Appleton; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Ava, and Bentley Arts, all of St. John’s, Mich. His is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne; and two sisters, Rita Nelson and Darlene Lachapelle.

Honoring Fred’s wishes there was no public service. Allo Funeral Home assisted the family.
