Man arrested for domestic violence, MDOP
RAPID RIVER – Following a lengthy manhunt Thursday, a 27-year-old Rapid River man was arrested on charges of domestic violence and related property damage in Masonville Township, according to Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post.
Troopers were dispatched to a domestic violence incident at a township residence where the 23-year-old victim, an Escanaba woman, suffered minor injuries from the assault. The victim’s vehicle was also damaged during the altercation which occurred around 2 p.m., said police.
Troopers and other law enforcement were called in to search for the suspect who had fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended around 8:45 p.m. after a brief foot chase near U.S. 2 in Rapid River.
The suspect remains lodged in Delta County Jail. His name is not being released pending his arraignment in Delta County District Court on charges of domestic assault and malicious destruction of property.
The suspect also faces pending arrest warrants out of the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, said a trooper this morning.
State police were assisted Thursday by the sheriff’s department, Escanaba Public Safety, and Gladstone Public Safety.
