Reading kids get creative

“Fizz, Boom, Bang!” the Summer Reading Program at the Escanaba Public Library was intended to excite children about reading and crafting was part of the program. Altrusans Alice Vermullen and Frances Michaels ran the crafting session. After listening to a story, the children spent an hour decorating pillowcases with reading themes and favorite book characters. These were taken home and enjoyed as permanent reminders of the fun summer of 2014. Michaels is pictured above with one of the young participants and the pillowcase she had just completed. At left, Sean O’Sullivan is using colored markers and stencils to decorate his pillowcase.
