Dolores R. Gould

MANISTIQUE – The world has lost a very special lady. Dolores “Dee” Gould, age 85, of 120 N. Fifth Street, Manistique, Michigan passed away on Aug. 19, 2014, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born June 20, 1929, in Cooks, Mich., the daughter of Raoul and Leona (DeMars) Demers. She attended Calspar, Riverside, and St. Francis schools and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1947.

On Sept. 30, 1948, she married Frederick “Pug” Gould at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique. They lived in South Dakota, in Paris, France, in Illinois, and in England. Fred unexpectedly preceded her in death on July 9, 1960, while serving in the U.S. Air Force in England.

Dee was employed over the years as a clerk at the Gambles Store, the Kiddy Shop and the Grainery in Manistique.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society, Our Lady of Fatima Circle and the funeral luncheon committee. She was also an active member of the Schoolcraft County V.F.W. Auxiliary of Manistique.

She enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Las Vegas, reading, bowling, playing cards, and going to the casino.

Most important to Dee was family. Her sacrifices, concern, and gentle influence were inspiring and her love was unconditional and never ending. She was the go-to person for many. Her family and friends were so proud of Dee and thank God every day that he chose her to be a part of their lives.

Dolores is survived by her children, Alana (Wayne) Sample of Green Bay, Wis., and Colin Gould of Sheridan, Wy.; grandchildren, Jeremy Sample of Suamico, Wis., and Dana (Chris) Andrakowicz of Manistique; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Danz, Tanner Danz and Logan Danz; great-great grandchild, Ava Tietz; sister-in-law, Joyce DeMers of Manistique; brother-in-law, George Devine of Manistique; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Tyler Danz; sister, Virginia Devine; brother; Allen DeMers; and an infant brother, Allen Jerome Demers.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at the church with Father Ben Paris officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
