Cherne selected Labor Day Parade grand marshall
ROCK – Dorothy Cherne, 87, of Rock, has been named Grand Marshal for the annual Rock Labor Day Parade.
Cherne, a long-time member of the Rock American Legion Post 559 Auxiliary and a member of the Rock Lions, says that she was “surprised to be chosen” but is very “happy” about it.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, in downtown Rock and continues to the Rock Lions Clubhouse grounds where a variety of games and activities are planned throughout the day, including Bingo at noon, flea market and craft vendors, concessions, and games on the Midway. A raffle drawing is at 5 p.m.
The Rock Area Senior Center will be holding a rummage sale on Aug. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. This will take place at the Center, located three blocks west of the blinker light in Rock. Coffee and sweets will be provided.
Donations for the rummage sale are welcome the week of the event (no clothing, please). Contact the Center with questions at 356-6420.
