Twice is nice

ESCANABA – So far, so good for the Escanaba girls tennis team.

The Eskymos earned their second win in two days, as they defeated Menominee 7-1, Thursday, in Escanaba.

The Eskymos took all four singles matches and were victorious in No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 doubles, as well.

For Escanaba, at No. 1 singles, Anna Burch defeated Brianna Chaltry 6-3, 6-2. Then, at No. 1 doubles, the duo of Olivia Bergquist and Emily LaFave, had no problems with Ali Christian and Madison McDonell, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Escanaba previously defeated Marquette, 6-2, on Wednesday.

Despite the early success, Escanaba head coach Dennis Lueneberg believes his team is still a work in progress.

“(We) had a few changes in our lineup,” he said. “We’re still working on getting the positioning in order. The girls have the right attitude, but there is still so much more we have to work upon.”

Next, Escanaba will travel to Kingsford on Saturday for its first match away from home, this year.
