Dorothy E. Olson

ESCANABA – Dorothy E. Olson, 97, of E5185 Hwy. M-35, Escanaba, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Escanaba, Mich., and was the daughter of John and Jennie (Linden) Wicklander. Dorothy graduated from Escanaba High School in 1934.

The former Dorothy Wicklander married Harold Olson on March 9, 1939, in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2000. Dorothy was employed in the newborn nursery department at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church, the Charity Circle and Loving Fingers Quilters at Central Methodist, was a 4 H leader and enjoyed her flowers, knitting and doing crafts.

She was also a member of the R.C. Hathaway Order of the Eastern Star and the Phoebe Rebecca Lodge where she served as Past Noble Grand Club Member.

Dorothy E. Olson is survived by: son, Charles H.J. Olson of Las Vegas, Nev.; son-in-law, James Jorgensen of Kewaunee, Wis.; five grandchildren, Edward (Gussie) Jorgensen, Lynn (Chris) Lyon, Andrew (Deb) Jorgensen, Garnet Olson-Miller and Sheryl Olson; nine grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Raymond (Dorothy) Olson of Escanaba; special friends, Sherman and Sharon Martin of Ford River; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Constance “Connie” Jorgensen, and one step-grandson.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy E. Olson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Central Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Minarik officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery.
