Breast cancer benefit

for Jeanne Murray

FELCH – A benefit dinner for Jeanne Murray will be held Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. (CDT) at the Felch Mountain Bible Church. The church is located at W4236 Washington Street in Felch.

Murray has been battling metastatic breast cancer since April and has this is her third time having breast cancer since 2005. This benefit will help defray the cost of medicine, copays, and travel expenses.

The dinner will be served from noon to 4 p.m. Music will be performed by the Country Hashbrowns from 1-3 p.m. and at 4 p.m. the Johnson Family Children will perform. The benefit will also include raffles, silent auctions, 50/50, and a bake sale.

Community Rummage

Sept. 5 and 6

ESCANABA – The sixth annual Community Rummage Sale will be held Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to help those in need in the community.

planning reunion

GLADSTONE – The Gladstone High School Class of 1950 is having a reunion meeting on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. at the home of Rosalie Alworden. Any class members willing to help out are welcome.

Fall Festival Sept. 7

at St. Rita Parish

TRENARY – St. Rita Parish, Trenary, will hold its annual Fall Festival on the parish grounds on Sunday, Sept. 7. A harvest dinner, featuring turkey with all the trimmings and home-made pie, will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parish hall.

Dinner tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children over the age of 5. Take-out dinners will be available. Special games for young and old alike will be featured on the grounds, including BINGO. There will be a Silver Dollar Game, craft and baked goods booth, a refreshment stand, and music by “Maudie.” Raffle drawing will be held at 4 p.m.

Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. the day of the festival.

‘Live Well Age Well’

ESCANABA – UPCAP the Area’s Agency on Aging is teaming up with OSF St. Francis Hospital, and the Island Resort & Casino on Thursday, Sept. 4, to bring the 1st annual “Live Well Age Well Conference.” this is going to be a fun-filled day with multiple workshops covering a wide array of topics such as Tai Chi exercise, home canning, fraud, abuse, and scams, planning for retirement, Medicare, and wellness programs.

Registration is $10 and includes a choice of grilled chicken or pasta primavera, casino promo cash, and other prize drawings.

Diabetes workshop

offered in Gladstone

GLADSTONE – A Diabetes self-management workshop is being offered in Gladstone beginning on Sept. 23.

The Diabetes-PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop is a six-week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed by people living with Type 2 diabetes to improve their health and manage their symptoms. As a result, participants are better equipped to face the daily challenge of living with diabetes.

Two trained leaders conduct the workshop. Subjects covered include: symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue, emotional problems, exercise, healthy eating, medications, and working with health care providers.

The six-week class will meet on Tuesday afternoons at the Gladstone Senior Center from 12:30-3 p.m. Class sizes are limited and pre registration is required. Family and caregivers are welcome. There is no cost to attend.
